Odd Looking Lindop Cue

I used to run an old working mans club which was built in 1890 which has now sadly closed.Within that we had a purpose built billiards room.I managed to find out what most of the misc bits were and also identify some of the cues(in the act of doing that i found this site).
One of the cues i couldnt find anything about.It doesnt seem a great one it just doesnt match anything i found so any information would be greatly appreciated.Its a lindop cue decorated in a burnt/etched fashion and is signed rather than badged. I apologise for the poor quality of the photos,i unfortunately sat on my camera and killed the view screen so i was shooting blind as it were.
The only other puzzle was a Fred Davis cue inscribed along it with WRCC .This isnt just someone scratching initials in but was carved and ink/paint filled.The rest ive been able to roughly identify.

Its ash with an ebony butt.Its butt-jointed & includes an extension
The cue is standard length,10mm tip & in excellent condition & comes with a hard-wood case.

Mechanically, oak would appear to be closer to ash than maple, though grains are different of course. Oak is a bit denser than both, could that help the balancing of a potential shaft to be more forward weighted?

Advice from builders on a drive way

Hi, I know there are folk on here with the knowledge to help me. I'm making the front garden into a drive but it's on a slope so I have used railway sleeper to square the height off, what I want to know is will posts concreted in ,butted up against a concrete path then hardcore whacked in ,take the strain and weight , I know the sleepers will. Thanks any advice welcomed. The slope is squared with just one sleeper on its side, so the post only has ten inches above the ground.

Riley burwat 1piece cue sound problem

I have a old steve Davis Riley burwat 1 piece cue.. Owned this now for nearly thirty years.. It started making a horrible noise a few months ago like a ping or a hollow noise when I struck the ball, I've had two ne Ferrell and half a dozen tips in the last 18 months.. It seemed to be ok after the last tip and Ferrell but has started doing it again.. I've tried shaping the tip a little and sometimes when the tip is buffed a little to add more chalk it stops.. I'm wondering if it could be a crack in the cue? Or maybe the weight? I can see the bottom of the cue where the weight is but no movement like it's moving up and down? Any help or advice would be great...

Black off the spot - side below 40?

Got an issue with a shot. Black off its spot, high and about a 3/4 ball or slightly thicker. Can play run to get the ball out in the middle but cannot get ball back up playing stun or screw.


Stun requires insane cue power to get it off chush and back up, screw is in off or just back along the Cush.....is screw and running side the best option here? I can get the ball out easier when I have tried this but lack consistency with side....which brings me to the point:

Lots of people have said forget side until you are a reg 40 breaker.

I have a high break of 41 but usually manage 25-35 every now and then with a lot of 10-20 breaks. I have therefore tried to avoid side thus far but I feel I need it now...or am I missing something?

A number of debut professionals are playing their first professional matches this week. This may be the start of something big for them. Good luck to them all.

Yan Bingtao - just 16yo, born in 2000, was due to turn pro last summer but had been too young to gain a visa. In action v Andrew Higginson (indian open), Ben Woollaston (world open) and Mitchell Mann (riga masters).

Boonyarit Kaettikun - 20yo Thai who won World u21 championships. Not entered Riga Masters but first match is v Robert Milkins in IO followed by Mike Dunn in WO.

Josh Boileau 20 yo from Kildare, doesn't seem to be playing in IO but first match will be Matthew Stevens in WO then Chen Zhe in RM.

Wang Yuchen, young Chinese player, who won Asian u21 championship. First match v Xiao Guodong in IO, then Jamie Jones in WO then Michael Georgiou in RM.

Fang Xiongman, qualified through Q School 1. Makes his debut v Stephen Maguire in WO then v same player in RM. Tough start. Not playing in IO.

Christopher Keogan. Qualified through Q School 1. IO v Martin Gould. WO v Tom Ford and v Hammad Miah in RM.

Jamie Barrett. Qualified through Q School 2. Only entered Riga Masters where he plays Jamie Jones.

Kurt Dunham, Australian, Oceania Nomination. IO v Joe Swail, Xiao Guodong in WO and Ian Burns in RM. Could have been worse.

Zhao Xintong, born 1997, Chinese. Great things are expected. World amateur runner up. Plays Tom Ford in IO, Barry Hawkins in WO and Itaro Santos in RM.

The other new pro, Asian Champion Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn from Thailand hasn't entered any of the three events. Not sure what sort of role he'll play in 16/17?

I have heard you can't screw the distance on a club cloth as you see the pros do on TV.

On a straight black, at best I can screw off the cushion and nearly back as far as the pink spot, but being comfortable I can get it off Cush and halfway between pink spot and Cush.

Roughly this is about 4-5 feet.

Will this be enough to pay to a high standard or do you need to develop this to improve?

Re ferrule

Lighten Colour Of Ash Grain

Some ash cues have very light wood with dark grained chevrons. I've mainly used maple cues because I prefer the plain shaft as I find the ash chevrons more distracting than helpful. Is there a way to lighten the grain of the ash chevrons to blend into the shaft better and make the shaft more uniform to look at?

Brass Ferulle Wall thickness.

I tipped a Cue yesterday i recently got made by an above average Australian maker and was surprised to see the Brass Ferulle thickness was literally under .5 of a mm!!! It is the thinnest Ferulle wall i have seen on a Cue EVER! But it does play well and every other Cue i have had from Parris / Omin / Phoenix / Andy Travis etc etc i re tipped them all and none of them had a thin wall Ferulle like this Cue has and all were about 2-3mm Brass thickness. I cannot knock it as i love the Cue and it plays awesome but i was surprised and what is the difference regarding wall thickness of the Brass?

I remember reading a thread a while ago and Terry Davidson i think made a comment along the lines of " I always ask for ANY Cue i order for the Brass Ferulle wall to be made very thin "....... Honestly i thought they were all the same just about and relatively close to each other in thickness but now i am not so sure.

Very interesting and what do you think about this topic fellas and little things that can make a difference, the length of the Ferulle is quite average at around 7-10mm long or there abouts but has a paper thin wall.
