Thicken a shaft

I have an old 1piece cue and the last 10-12 inches of the shaft is on the thin side. Is it possible to thicken it with wood filler then re-shape it or is it a lost cause? Also if doing that would it affect the integrity of the shaft (more stiffer)?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
