Bosch Electric Planer

I've just had to stop using one as some wood gubbins has squirted into the housing. I'll take it apart, clean it and it'll be fine, a minor issue given how long I've owned it.

The biggest detractor appears to be it's inability to cut through a flat piece of wood even if you set it at max cut (1.6mm in my case) unless you begin at the end of the timber. On top of that, the mech is basically a horizontal router, not a plane at all and this results in gauges rather than a slice along the grain.

It seems a horrible way to treat a piece of JnA (justified and ancient) ash. The noise, that wonderful soundtrack. Grrrr. And twice the weight to work with (compared to a hand plane) as well, so the actual muscle work doesn't seem any less. Does it get the job done faster even? Not sure.

Your experiences guys?
